Punjab Police arrests drug smuggler with 30 kg cocaine and Rs 4.94 crore drug money in joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police

Chandigarh/Ludhiana, October 11: Punjab Police arrested a drug smuggler with 30 kg cocaine and Rs 4.94 crore drug money in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Manjit Singh (24) of village Thandian, Banga, Nawanshahr district. He was living at Dashmesh Nagar Mullanpur Dakha for the last six months.

The police also recovered one .32 bore revolver, 38 fake vehicle number plates of Punjab and Haryana, 44 grams of gold, 385 grams of silver, a note counting machine and a weighing machine from his possession. His Mahindra Scorpio car was also seized.

The arrest was made following the arrest of two Punjab-based drug smugglers, Honey Basra of Palahi Gate, Phagwara and Sarabjit Singh of Village Ballan, Kartarpur, who were arrested from Jammu on October 1 along with 30 kg of cocaine.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the accused Manjit Singh used to take the consignment from Jalandhar area from the two persons arrested by the Jammu Police and deliver it to different places through vehicles. The investigation is on to find out the back-and-forth relationship of the case.

AIG Counter Intelligence Simratpal Singh Dhindsa said that the accused Manjit Singh’s father Satnam Singh is also involved in drug trafficking and has been declared a fugitive (PO) in the NDPS case registered at Garhshankar. Police teams are conducting a raid to catch him.
