Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Condemns Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest, Slams BJP’s Authoritarian Tactics
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today to meet with his family. Kejriwal has been arrested in connection with the liquor policy scam. Meanwhile, Mann addressed the media and raised questions about Kejriwal’s arrest. He accused the central government of targeting opposition leaders by trapping them in false cases to prevent them from participating in election campaigns. Mann asserted that arresting Arvind Kejriwal would not confine his ideology, as Kejriwal represents a mindset rather than just an individual. He emphasized that supporters stand firm with their leader like a rock.
Furthermore, Mann criticized the agencies being used as tools or weapons by the central government. He alleged that whenever opposition leaders raise their voices against BJP’s atrocities, they are targeted by agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Income Tax Department. Mann stated that the situation in the country resembles an undeclared emergency.
Mann lambasted the BJP for spreading the most hatred in the country. He accused the BJP of halting the funds for Punjab’s Mohalla Clinics under the National Health Mission. He questioned how they dared to hinder Punjab’s progress and celebrate Republic Day. He said, “If it were up to them, they would erase Punjab’s name from the national anthem… They want to prevent any opposition leader from campaigning for the upcoming elections. They are following in the footsteps of Vladimir Putin. This is dictatorship.”
Meanwhile, several AAP leaders and supporters protested against the BJP outside AAP and BJP offices. Referring to Section 144 being imposed in the area, the police asked them to leave. AAP supporters protested against the BJP-led central government. The police barricaded the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Marg and restricted access for traffic.
The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal and the subsequent reactions highlight the growing tensions between the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP. The use of agencies against opposition leaders raises concerns about the state of democracy in the country. The coming days are expected to witness intensified political clashes and increased scrutiny of the BJP’s actions.
The situation underscores the need for a robust democratic framework that safeguards the rights of opposition leaders and ensures accountability in governance. The political landscape remains turbulent, with opposition parties gearing up to challenge the BJP’s authoritarian rule.
