Anand Sharma Promises Civil Use of Pathankot Airport and Development Initiatives for Kangra-Chamba
Dharamsala (Arvind Sharma ), 19 May.
Congress candidate from Kangra-Chamba and former Union Minister of External Affairs, Commerce, Textiles, and Industry, Anand Sharma, addressed the media, emphasizing his commitment to regional development. Sharma questioned why Pathankot Airport remains closed for civil use while airports in Srinagar, Chandigarh, and other defense areas serve dual purposes. He promised to open Pathankot Airport to benefit the people of Kangra and Chamba, noting that this is crucial given the time required to expand Gaggal Airport.
Sharma outlined his plans to increase flight services to Gaggal and to construct a heliport in Chamba. Highlighting his past contributions, he assured that the institutions established in Kangra and Chamba before his candidacy testify to his dedication and work.
He said that it looks like that the Chawari- Chamba Road Tunnel project would commence this year, and now his other priority projects include the Holi -Utrala and Sach Pass -Pangi tunnels. Sharma stressed the importance of converting the Kangra Valley Railway Line to broad gauge.
Sharma also promised to develop processing, packing, and storage industries for fruits and vegetables in Chamba and Kangra. Providing multi-specialty medical facilities to Chamba will be another priority. He proposed boosting religious tourism in the area, similar to the Chardham project in Uttarakhand, to harness the region’s potential.
“My commitment to these projects and to the people of Kangra-Chamba is unwavering. These initiatives will not only improve infrastructure but also enhance the quality of life for our residents,” Sharma concluded.
