23 army personnel missing after flash flood in Sikkim
On Wednesday, a sudden cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim triggered a flash flood in the Teesta River in Lachen valley, which was compounded by the release of water from a dam. The flood washed away 23 army personnel and submerged camps and vehicles, according to officials.
The release of water from the Chungthang dam caused the water level downstream to rise suddenly by 15-20 feet. Defence personnel are working hard to bring the situation under control.
The government is actively working to address the challenges posed by the flooding and provide necessary support to those affected by the natural calamity.
