In a major political development that marks a decisive shift in West Bengal’s political landscape, Suvendu Adhikari was formally elected as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party on Friday and will take over as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal following the party’s emphatic victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The announcement was made during the BJP legislature party meeting held in Kolkata, where senior party leaders and newly elected legislators gathered to formally elect their leader. Dilip Ghosh proposed Adhikari’s name for the top post, reflecting the strong backing he enjoys within the party’s state leadership.
The meeting was attended by Amit Shah, who was appointed as the central observer for the leadership selection process, along with Mohan Charan Majhi, who served as co-observer. Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah officially declared Suvendu Adhikari as the elected leader of the BJP Legislative Party in West Bengal.
The BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections has brought an end to the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress in the state.
