Haryana Civic Poll Verdict Reflects Voters’ Endorsement of Governance Model, Says Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has described the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping performance in the recent municipal elections as a clear endorsement of its governance model, asserting that voters have backed development, transparency and delivery over what he termed “negative politics”. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony in Panchkula for newly elected mayors, chairpersons and councillors, Saini said the outcome reflected a decisive shift in public expectations towards results-driven administration.

Addressing party representatives and elected officials, the Chief Minister thanked voters across the state for what he called a “historic and one-sided mandate”, noting that the results demonstrated growing public confidence in the BJP’s policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also acknowledged the role of party workers, who, he said, carried the government’s welfare initiatives to households across the state despite challenging conditions.

Saini framed the verdict as an affirmation of what he described as a “triple-engine government” model — coordination between the Centre, the state, and local urban bodies — which he argued would accelerate development and improve service delivery at the grassroots level. He said voters had chosen governance continuity in urban local bodies, rejecting what he characterised as divisive and unproductive political approaches.

The Chief Minister was particularly critical of the Congress, accusing it of relying on rhetoric rather than performance. Without naming specific instances, he suggested that the electorate had grown weary of promises unaccompanied by implementation, and had instead favoured a governance model focused on tangible outcomes.

Highlighting the broader political context, Saini pointed to the BJP’s electoral performance in multiple municipal corporations, including Hisar, Gurugram, Faridabad and Yamunanagar, and said similar support had now been extended in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat. According to him, this continuity of electoral success reflects increasing trust in the party’s development agenda at both the state and national levels.

He linked the results to a wider narrative of governance over the past decade, arguing that both India and Haryana had witnessed structural changes in infrastructure, welfare delivery and economic growth. He cited welfare schemes aimed at farmers, women, youth and economically weaker sections, saying these had contributed to a sense of security and inclusion among citizens.

Looking ahead, Saini suggested that the momentum could extend beyond Haryana, expressing confidence that voters in other states would also respond positively to similar governance approaches. He referred to recent electoral developments in other regions as indicative of a broader political trend favouring stability and development-oriented politics.

At the same time, the Chief Minister struck a note of responsibility for newly elected representatives, urging them to view their mandate as a call to serve rather than merely to govern. He emphasised that local leaders must prioritise essential civic services such as roads, water supply and electricity, and work closely with citizens to address everyday concerns.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, Saini said a significant number of commitments made during the Assembly elections had already been implemented, with further progress underway. He stressed that accountability and delivery would remain central to the administration’s approach.

The event was attended by several senior leaders and public representatives, reflecting the political significance attached to the municipal results. As Haryana moves forward, the civic poll outcome is likely to shape both governance priorities and political narratives in the state, particularly as parties begin to position themselves for future electoral contests.
