Investigation Says Person Seen in Controversial Clip Does Not Match Chief Minister; Fresh Twist in Politically Charged Row

A politically sensitive controversy surrounding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken a significant turn after forensic findings reportedly concluded that the individual seen in a widely circulated viral video is not the Chief Minister.
The video, which had triggered intense political debate and became the subject of public and religious scrutiny, was repeatedly cited by opposition leaders and rival political groups in their criticism of the Punjab government. The controversy gained further traction during a politically charged period, with allegations being amplified across social media platforms and public forums.
According to details emerging from the investigation, forensic experts carried out an extensive technical examination of the footage. Investigators reportedly analysed 1,191 individual video frames and conducted a detailed comparison of facial characteristics, body structure, height, posture and side-profile features.
The findings are said to indicate substantial differences between the individual appearing in the video and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Investigators reportedly observed that the person visible in the footage appeared to have an estimated height of around 5 feet 10 inches, while Mann’s documented height is approximately 5 feet 8 inches. The examination also reportedly found differences in facial contours, shoulder structure, body build and overall physical posture.
Officials familiar with the probe have stated that both forensic assessments reached similar conclusions and did not establish a match between the Chief Minister and the person seen in the video.
The findings have prompted senior leaders of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party to describe the episode as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and damage the reputation of the Chief Minister. Party leaders have argued that the controversy was politically motivated and designed to influence public perception at a time when Punjab’s political landscape remains highly competitive.
Government sources have maintained that any effort to use fabricated or misleading material to target public figures or create social and religious discord should be treated seriously. They have also indicated that agencies are examining the origins and circulation of the video to determine whether there was a coordinated campaign behind its dissemination.
The controversy had acquired added sensitivity because of allegations that the video was linked to matters concerning Sikh religious sentiments. Political opponents had repeatedly raised questions over the footage, while supporters of the Chief Minister consistently rejected its authenticity and demanded a scientific investigation.
With the forensic examination now reportedly ruling out the Chief Minister’s identity in the video, the focus may shift toward identifying those responsible for creating, circulating or promoting the disputed content.
Senior government functionaries have stated that individuals found involved in spreading fabricated material or attempting to provoke communal or religious tensions could face legal consequences under relevant provisions of law.
The development is likely to influence the broader political narrative in Punjab, where both the ruling party and opposition groups are positioning themselves ahead of future electoral contests. Analysts say the findings could strengthen the government’s argument that misinformation campaigns are increasingly becoming a feature of modern political battles, while also raising fresh questions about the use of unverified digital content in public discourse.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine whether the circulation of the video was merely an act of misinformation or part of a larger organised effort to influence public opinion and damage political reputations.
