In a significant operation against organised cross-border crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled an alleged arms and narcotics smuggling network with suspected international links, arresting two individuals and recovering a cache of illegal weapons and drugs.
During the operation, police seized six sophisticated pistols, one kilogram of heroin, one kilogram of opium, and ₹10,000 believed to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade. Investigators described the recovery as a major success in Punjab’s ongoing campaign against organised crime and narcotics trafficking.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested suspects were allegedly operating under the direction of a foreign-based handler who coordinated the smuggling of illegal firearms and narcotics across the International Border. The contraband was reportedly intended for distribution among criminal networks operating within the state.
Police have registered separate FIRs at Chheharta and Cantonment police stations in Amritsar. Officials said the investigation is now focused on identifying both the supply chain across the border and the local distribution network, while efforts are underway to trace other associates linked to the international handlers.
The latest crackdown underscores the growing challenge posed by cross-border smuggling networks, which continue to fuel the illegal arms and drug trade in Punjab. Senior police officials reiterated that sustained intelligence-led operations will continue to target organised criminal syndicates and dismantle their infrastructure.
Punjab Police said it remains committed to strengthening border security, disrupting transnational smuggling operations, and ensuring a safer, more secure, and drug-free Punjab through coordinated enforcement and continued investigation.
