The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday adopted a resolution commending the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government for what it described as major achievements in transparent government recruitment and industrial investment, highlighting the administration’s efforts to create employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s economy.
The resolution, moved in the Assembly by MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, praised the government’s approach towards ensuring merit-based recruitment in public services while simultaneously attracting large-scale private investments aimed at generating long-term employment across Punjab.
Presenting the resolution, Dhaliwal said the state government has fundamentally changed the recruitment process by eliminating the long-standing practices of political influence, recommendations and alleged corruption. He said government jobs are now being awarded solely on the basis of merit and transparency, restoring confidence among thousands of young job aspirants who had previously questioned the fairness of recruitment procedures.
According to the resolution, the Punjab Government has provided 68,228 government jobs since assuming office on April 1, 2022. It stated that all appointments were made through a transparent, merit-driven and corruption-free process, without political interference.
The resolution highlighted that the School Education Department accounted for the largest share of appointments, with 16,316 recruitments. The Home Affairs Department recruited 14,723 candidates, while the Power Department appointed 8,706 employees. The Local Government Department filled 5,681 positions and the Health and Family Welfare Department recruited 4,758 personnel. Additional appointments were also made across several key departments, including Revenue, Agriculture, Medical Education, Water Resources and other public services.
The Assembly resolution described these recruitments as a significant step towards strengthening public institutions while providing meaningful employment to the youth of Punjab.
Alongside government employment, the resolution also focused on industrial development, stating that the government has worked to create a business-friendly environment through policy reforms, improved governance and ease of doing business initiatives.
It noted that between March 16, 2022, and July 31, 2026, Punjab attracted 9,899 investment proposals with a combined proposed investment of approximately ₹1.83 lakh crore. According to government estimates presented in the House, these projects have the potential to generate more than 6.16 lakh employment opportunities across various sectors of the state’s economy.
The resolution further stated that several leading Indian companies have announced expansion plans in Punjab during this period. These investments span a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, steel, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, food processing, logistics, healthcare, information technology and education, reflecting growing investor confidence in the state.
MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the government’s twin focus on transparent public recruitment and industrial expansion has created a stronger foundation for economic growth while offering employment opportunities to Punjab’s youth within the state itself.
He observed that sustained industrial investment, coupled with fair recruitment policies, has the potential to reduce the compulsion for young people to migrate elsewhere in search of employment. According to him, the government’s vision is centred on creating an environment where educated youth can build successful careers without leaving Punjab.
The resolution also underlined the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency in governance and strengthening investor confidence through stable policies and administrative reforms. It said that attracting private investment while ensuring fairness in public recruitment represents a balanced strategy for long-term economic development.
