Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has asserted that law and order remains firmly under control in the state, while highlighting his government’s measures against organised crime, drug trafficking and other threats to public security.
In a statement, Mann said the state government remained fully committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of its people. He said the administration had adopted a firm approach towards criminal networks and would not allow any element to disturb Punjab’s peaceful environment.
According to figures cited by the Chief Minister, security agencies have dismantled 1,234 gangster modules as part of the ongoing crackdown on organised criminal networks. Mann also said that 10 proclaimed offenders who had fled abroad had been deported and brought back to face the law.
The Chief Minister placed particular emphasis on the government’s campaign against drug trafficking, saying 60,582 FIRs had been registered against those involved in the illegal drug trade. He further claimed that properties worth ₹366 crore had been seized as part of action against drug traffickers.
Mann said the state was also strengthening its security architecture through the use of technology. Punjab Police, he said, had been equipped with high-tech anti-drone systems to counter potential threats involving drones, particularly along sensitive areas and routes used for illicit activities.
Alongside police measures, the government has also sought greater participation of local communities in maintaining security. Mann said Village Defence Committees involving around 1.5 lakh people had been established across Punjab, creating a wider community-based network to support efforts aimed at protecting public safety.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of continued political and administrative focus on organised crime, gang activity and the drug menace in Punjab. The government has repeatedly projected its law-and-order strategy around stronger policing, action against criminal assets, technological surveillance and community participation.
Mann made it clear that the government would maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards those attempting to undermine peace in the state. He said no individual or group responsible for disturbing Punjab’s security and social harmony would be spared.
With organised crime and drug trafficking remaining among the major challenges confronting Punjab, the government is seeking to reinforce its message that criminal networks will face sustained action. The figures cited by Mann are intended to underline the scale of the ongoing enforcement campaign and the administration’s emphasis on keeping law and order at the centre of its governance agenda.
