Patiala। : Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has initiated a time-bound exercise to update critical pension records after discrepancies were found in the pension package that were affecting the processing of financial benefits for pensioners and family pensioners.
The corporation has directed all Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to verify and update the relevant records within 15 days, with the objective of ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive benefits such as Old Age Allowance and Leave Travel Concession (LTC) without unnecessary delays.
The issue came to the notice of PSPCL management during a meeting involving PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS, representatives of the PSEB Joint Forum and the Bijli Mulazam Ekta Manch Punjab. During the interaction, employee representatives highlighted difficulties being faced by some pensioners and family pensioners because essential dates were missing from their records.
A subsequent examination of the records found that the dates of death of 2,109 pensioners had not been updated in the pension package. Similarly, the dates of birth of 876 family pensioners were found to be missing from the relevant records.
The absence of these details was creating difficulties in processing certain benefits for eligible beneficiaries. Among the benefits affected were Old Age Allowance and LTC, according to PSPCL.
Taking note of the issue, CMD Gurkirat Kirpal Singh directed the concerned DDOs to complete the record-updating exercise on priority and within the stipulated 15-day period. The move is aimed at ensuring that pensioners and family pensioners do not lose or face avoidable delays in receiving benefits to which they are otherwise entitled.
In a communication issued on September 23, PSPCL instructed all DDOs to immediately undertake verification of pension records and update the required information on the basis of relevant documentary evidence.
The corporation has also put in place a mechanism for cases where records are incomplete or supporting documents are unavailable. Concerned offices have been directed to contact the pensioners directly wherever necessary and assist them in completing the required formalities.
The latest initiative is significant for PSPCL’s pension administration, particularly because accurate personal and service records are essential for processing benefits linked to the age and status of pensioners and family pensioners.
By setting a specific deadline for verification and updating the records, PSPCL has sought to move the matter from identification of discrepancies to time-bound corrective action. The exercise will also require DDOs to verify the available documentation before making the necessary changes in the pension package.
For the affected beneficiaries, the immediate objective is to ensure that missing information does not continue to obstruct access to admissible financial and service-related benefits.
The initiative also highlights the importance of maintaining updated pension records within PSPCL, where a large number of retired employees and family pensioners depend on the corporation’s administrative systems for the timely processing of their entitlements.
PSPCL’s latest directions place responsibility on the concerned offices to complete the verification process promptly and to engage directly with beneficiaries wherever records require additional documentation. The 15-day deadline is expected to provide a clear timeline for completing the exercise and addressing the identified gaps.
