Dhirendra K. Ojha to Continue as PIB Principal Director General for Another Year

Senior Indian Information Service officer Dhirendra K. Ojha will continue to head the Press Information Bureau (PIB) after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his reappointment on a contractual basis for another year.

Ojha, who serves as Principal Director General of PIB and Principal Spokesperson of the Government of India, will begin his fresh tenure on October 1, 2026, immediately after his retirement. The contractual appointment will remain effective until September 30, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A 1990-batch IIS officer, Ojha assumed charge as Principal Director General of PIB in July 2024. He succeeded Sheyphali B. Sharan, who subsequently took charge as Director General of the Publications Division.

His continuation at the helm of PIB provides administrative and institutional continuity to the government’s principal agency for disseminating official information and facilitating communication between the Union government and the media.

As Principal Director General, Ojha oversees the PIB’s extensive information and media-relations network, including communication of government policies, programmes and decisions through its various platforms and regional offices.

The one-year contractual reappointment means Ojha will continue to occupy one of the key positions in the government’s information and public-communication establishment beyond his retirement from regular service.
