Media Plays Vital Role in Strengthening Public Accountability: PSPCL CMD Gurkirat Kirpal Singh

Patiala — Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) CMD Gurkirat Kirpal Singh today held an interaction with journalists and media representatives from across Patiala district, underlining the important role of the media in strengthening democracy and ensuring that public concerns reach the government and concerned institutions.

A large number of district correspondents, representatives of newspapers, print publications and news channels, along with senior journalists, attended the interaction at the PSPCL headquarters in Patiala.

During the meeting, journalists raised a range of issues concerning electricity consumers in different parts of the district, including problems related to power supply and the delivery of electricity services. They also shared feedback received from residents at the grassroots level and highlighted difficulties being faced by consumers.

The PSPCL CMD listened to the concerns in detail and assured the media representatives that issues affecting consumers would be given due attention. He said that addressing the problems of the people remains one of the Corporation’s foremost priorities.

“Every consumer is important to the Power Corporation, and the media is also an important partner in our efforts to improve public services,” Singh said, emphasising that feedback emerging through responsible journalism can help the Corporation identify shortcomings and take corrective measures.

He said that the role of the media in a democracy extends beyond reporting events. Journalists also serve as an important channel through which citizens can communicate their concerns to government departments and public institutions. Constructive feedback from the media, he added, can help improve the quality and efficiency of services at the ground level.

Singh assured the journalists that PSPCL was making continuous efforts to provide consumers with reliable, efficient and uninterrupted electricity services. He said that complaints and issues highlighted through the media would be examined seriously and that efforts would be made to address shortcomings and prevent their recurrence.

During the interaction, the CMD also stressed the need for stronger coordination between PSPCL and the media. He said that timely communication and direct coordination could help ensure that consumer-related problems are brought to the attention of the Corporation quickly, enabling the concerned authorities to respond more effectively.

The interaction also provided an opportunity for journalists to share broader feedback on the functioning of electricity services in their respective areas and to place consumer concerns directly before the Corporation’s senior leadership.

Singh urged media representatives to continue bringing genuine public grievances to the Corporation’s notice and assured them that such inputs would be treated as constructive feedback. He also thanked the journalists for participating in the interaction and contributing to a dialogue aimed at improving public service delivery.

The meeting reflected the importance of institutional engagement with the media, particularly in essential public services such as electricity, where timely communication and prompt resolution of consumer grievances can have a direct impact on people’s daily lives.

The interaction was organised by the Public Relations Department of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Patiala.
