At Abohar, Punjab CM highlights welfare delivery, jobs and development as AAP seeks another mandate; targets one crore women under Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna
Abohar। Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has placed women’s financial empowerment at the centre of the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance and electoral narrative ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, announcing that ₹1,291 crore has been transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 37.43 lakh women under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna.
Addressing a public gathering in Abohar on Sunday, Mann described the scheme as a major step towards strengthening women’s financial independence and dignity. He said the government’s larger target was to cover one crore women, with 80.05 lakh registrations already completed by October 29. The total assistance distributed under the scheme has reached ₹3,934.80 crore, according to figures shared by the Chief Minister.
Mann announced that further payments would be made on December 1 and January 1, promising that the New Year transfer would bring financial assistance to registered beneficiaries. He said the scheme was designed to benefit every eligible woman independently, without restricting assistance to one beneficiary per household.
Turning the welfare announcement into a broader political message, Mann said the AAP government was returning public money to people through direct financial assistance, free electricity, healthcare, education and infrastructure development. He highlighted the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which provides eligible families cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh, and said 54 lakh health cards had been issued. He also cited the provision of 300 units of free electricity to around 90 per cent of households and claimed that 70,685 government jobs had been provided on merit.
The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in government schools, sports infrastructure and irrigation, citing an increase in government-school NEET qualifiers from 80 in 2021 to 882 in 2026. He referred to the development of 3,100 sports grounds, canal water reaching 1,587 previously unserved villages and an expansion in canal-irrigated area from 20.89 lakh to 60.30 lakh acres.
Taking aim at the Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann accused the traditional parties of putting political interests ahead of Punjab’s development. He said AAP was seeking another opportunity to serve the state in 2027 and maintained that the government’s record of welfare delivery, employment generation and infrastructure development would be central to its appeal to voters.
The Abohar gathering underscored Mann’s effort to position AAP as a government focused on direct benefits and visible delivery, with women’s welfare emerging as a key pillar of its campaign narrative. The scale of the scheme, its implementation and timely delivery of future instalments will be important tests of the government’s promise as Punjab moves towards the next Assembly election.
