Himachal Pradesh Government Launches State Awards to Honour Excellence in Technical Education

Shimla, April 5, 2025 — In a major step toward recognising the efforts of educators in the technical education sector, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved a new state award scheme to honour distinguished teachers across government and private institutions. The initiative, guided by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, aims to acknowledge exemplary service, innovation, and dedication in the field of technical education.

The awards will be presented annually on Teacher’s Day (September 5) by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and will include a medal, a Himachali cap or scarf, shawl, books, memento, certificate of recognition, and a citation.

10 Annual Awards Across Six Categories in Technical Education

Under the scheme, a maximum of 10 awards will be conferred each year in six specific categories:

The initiative covers five government engineering colleges, five pharmacy colleges, 17 polytechnics, and 153 ITIs. Additionally, 180 private institutions offering technical education in the state will also be eligible.

Selection Criteria Focuses on Innovation, Impact, and Student Outcomes

To ensure transparency and merit-based recognition, a multi-tier evaluation process has been set up. Nominations will be reviewed by institutional committees, followed by scrutiny from a high-level committee chaired by the Director of Technical Education. Final selection will be made by a State Selection Committee led by the Secretary of Technical Education.

Eligible teachers will be evaluated based on several parameters, including:

Only serving teachers as of April 30 will be considered for the award. Retired educators and those facing disciplinary action will not be eligible. Separate evaluation standards will apply for faculty from different institution types — engineering, pharmacy, polytechnic, and ITI.

Himachal Pradesh Reinforces Commitment to Quality Education

This initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to elevate the quality of technical education, encourage teacher innovation, and promote industry-academia collaboration. By honouring top-performing educators, the government aims to inspire excellence, enhance student learning outcomes, and boost employability among youth.
