CM Nayab Saini Pays Tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh, Criticizes Punjab Government

In a powerful tribute to India’s revolutionary legacy, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited the birthplace of Shaheed Udham Singh in Sunam, Punjab, reaffirming the ideals of sacrifice and patriotism that defined the legendary freedom fighter. Paying floral tributes at the Udham Singh Memorial and addressing a large public gathering, CM Saini reflected on the immense contribution of the martyr, whose fearless act of avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre continues to inspire generations.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also toured the Shaheed Udham Singh museum, carefully observing the revolutionary’s photographs, belongings, and handwritten letters. Deeply moved, he recorded his reflections in the visitors’ book, emphasizing that Udham Singh’s unwavering resolve and courage remain a beacon of inspiration for a nation that cherishes its hard-won independence. CM Saini also participated in a symbolic tree plantation at the memorial and met with the martyr’s descendants, led by Sardar Hardayal Singh, who submitted a memorandum outlining their concerns and requests.

While addressing the public meeting, organized by Punjab BJP leader and state secretary Daman Bajwa, Chief Minister Saini recounted the grim history of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He reminded the audience of how, on April 13, 1919, thousands of innocent Indians had gathered to celebrate Baisakhi, only to be brutally massacred under the orders of General Dyer. CM Saini praised Udham Singh’s resolve to avenge this atrocity, noting how the freedom fighter waited 21 years before traveling to London and executing Dyer on April 13, 1940.

Calling Udham Singh a symbol of courage, penance, and sacrifice, the Chief Minister noted that it was through the martyrdom of heroes like Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh that India achieved its independence. He stressed that today’s India must be shaped in accordance with the dreams of those who fought for it, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to build a nation that lives up to the ideals of its martyrs.

On the sidelines of the event, CM Saini also launched a scathing critique of the Punjab government. Speaking to reporters, he said that despite the public mandate and promises made, the current state government had failed to deliver. Accusing the ruling party of selling dreams without backing them with results, he claimed that the people of Punjab, like those of Delhi before them, have now begun to understand the reality behind the lofty promises.

CM Saini’s remarks come at a time when public trust in governance remains a pressing issue across state boundaries. In his view, commemorating heroes like Shaheed Udham Singh is not just a ceremonial gesture, but a moment to reawaken the nation’s conscience and rededicate efforts toward fulfilling the unfulfilled aspirations of those who gave their all for India’s freedom.

The event was marked by widespread participation from Punjab BJP leaders, including Acting State President Ashwani Sharma, senior BJP leader and MLA Arvind Khanna, General Secretary Dayal Sodhi, organizer Daman Bajwa, and district chief of Sunam Amritraj Chattha. Also present were family members of the martyr and representatives from local organizations, who honored CM Saini with mementos in appreciation of his visit and message.

CM Saini’s visit to Sunam and his heartfelt homage to Shaheed Udham Singh reaffirmed Haryana’s solidarity with Punjab in honoring India’s revolutionary past. In aligning remembrance with calls for good governance, his speech blended history with present-day accountability, laying emphasis on creating a future where every citizen enjoys the true fruits of independence.
