
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini called upon newly elected representatives of urban local bodies to commit themselves to the causes of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” cleanliness, and a drug-free society in a mission-driven manner. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Panchkula, he urged them to rise above political affiliations and work with dedication for the betterment of society.
The event marked the oath-taking of newly elected mayors, municipal council and municipal committee presidents, and members across Haryana. Congratulating them, CM Saini emphasized that the recent civic elections had demonstrated the people’s preference for development, transparency, and good governance. He encouraged representatives to strive towards making cities prosperous, clean, safe, drug-free, and self-sufficient.
The Chief Minister assured the representatives that the Haryana government would provide full support for urban progress. He underlined that cities reflect the state’s growth, as visitors assess urban areas based on their development. He urged the newly elected members to act as guardians of Haryana’s prosperity by implementing government schemes efficiently and ensuring visible development on the ground.
Commitment to Key National Initiatives
CM Saini reminded the audience that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign from Haryana, and the state had exceeded its target for electing women representatives in the civic polls. He noted that this success showcased the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
Addressing cleanliness, he cited PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat initiative and urged local body representatives to ensure their municipalities, municipal councils, and corporations ranked at the top in cleanliness.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the fight against drug abuse, stressing the importance of the ‘Mans’ portal, a platform to report drug-related activities, monitored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He encouraged representatives to actively report any drug-related issues in their wards to curb the menace effectively while ensuring informants’ anonymity.
Transparency and Efficient Budget Utilization
CM Saini emphasized the importance of transparency and integrity in governance. He highlighted the recent Haryana state budget, which allocated over ₹2,05,000 crore, with a substantial portion dedicated to urban development. He urged representatives to ensure that every rupee was spent on public welfare and state development.
The Chief Minister also spoke about budgetary provisions made specifically for urban local bodies. The government has doubled the municipal development budget to ₹3,114 crore as per the recommendations of the Sixth Finance Commission. Furthermore, the urban local bodies department’s budget has been increased to ₹5,666 crore for the upcoming fiscal year to accelerate infrastructure development.
Strengthening Urban Local Bodies
CM Saini stressed the need for decentralization of power within urban local bodies, enabling them to function efficiently. He highlighted Haryana’s significant role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a self-reliant and developed India by 2047. With BJP’s continued governance in the state, he stated that the “double-engine government” had now transformed into a “triple-engine” government, ensuring rapid development with enhanced cooperation between local, state, and central authorities.
To further support municipal development, CM Saini announced the release of ₹587 crore under the State Finance Commission for infrastructure projects. Additionally, he inaugurated new online portals and the updated website of the urban local bodies department to streamline services and enhance transparency.
The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fast-paced development, stating that Haryana would contribute significantly to achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047. The newly elected representatives were urged to work with integrity and dedication to fulfill the aspirations of the people and strengthen the governance structure at the grassroots level.
