Punjab’s road transport sector is witnessing unrest as thousands of contract-based staff under PUNBUS/PRTC unions have issued a formal strike notice starting 28 November 2025, protesting unfulfilled demands and alleged contractual exploitation.
Union leadership — including Punjab-level chairman and state president — cited non-payment of dues, delay in reimbursements, and unfair tendering policies as key reasons for their agitation. They warned of withdrawing services across many routes, which could disrupt public transport for hundreds of thousands of daily commuters.
The proposed strike comes at a time when rural and lower-income communities rely heavily on state-run bus services. Officials have called for urgent engagement with union leaders, asserting that disrupting transport would hit ordinary citizens hardest. The situation now demands a quick resolution, failing which Punjab could face serious public inconvenience and civil unrest.
