Gurugram Police Bust Cyber Crime Network, Arrest 24 Fraudsters in ₹33.94 Crore Scam

Over 9,000 Complaints Filed Against Cyber Criminals Across India

Gurugram, March 27: In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, Gurugram Police Cyber Crime teams have arrested 24 cyber criminals involved in scamming victims across India. The fraudsters, operating under various pretexts, have defrauded people of a staggering ₹33.94 crore across 9,017 registered complaints.

Massive Crackdown on Cyber Fraud

The arrested individuals were identified as Bherulal Sharma, Hitesh Saini, Devender, Abhishek Tiwari, Deepak Rajput, Rajender Kumar, Manish Srivastava, Mayank Narula, Dinesh Verma, Prakash Chandra, Rajat, Vikas alias Vicky, Sunil Kumar, Deepak alias Monu, Tahir Hussain, Deepak Kumar, Randeep, Naveen Kumar, Deepanshu, Dheeraj Tanwar, Rahul, Tahir Naseem Malik, Bijender Meghwal, and Rakesh Kumar Jakhad.

The arrests were made by multiple teams from the Cyber Crime Police Station, Gurugram.

Cracking the Digital Trail

Police investigations, aided by data extracted from nine mobile phones recovered from the accused, confirmed their involvement in 310 cases nationwide, with 24 cases registered in Haryana, including five in Gurugram.

Modus Operandi: How the Cyber Criminals Operated

According to ACP Priyanshu Diwan, the accused employed multiple cyber fraud tactics, including:
Fake investment schemes promising high returns.
Stock market fraud luring victims into bogus trading platforms.
Electricity bill scams demanding fake overdue payments.
Online shopping frauds offering non-existent discounted goods.
Sextortion scams using morphed images and video calls.
Fake law enforcement impersonation, threatening victims with arrest.
Digital arrests and NOC frauds scaring victims into paying large sums.

Coordinated Law Enforcement Action

As part of the ongoing cybercrime crackdown, 31 bank officials have also been arrested over the past year for their involvement in financial fraud cases.

The Gurugram Police are actively collaborating with various agencies to combat cyber fraud and have urged citizens to remain vigilant.

Public Advisory: Stay Alert Against Cyber Scams

Authorities have warned people to be cautious of unsolicited calls and messages promising financial gains. Officials advise against sharing personal details or clicking on unknown links from suspicious sources.

For any cyber fraud-related complaints, victims can report incidents to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) or their nearest police station.
