Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday delivered a politically charged yet governance-focused address, combining strong ideological assertions, sharp criticism of opposition parties, and a detailed account of his government’s performance. Speaking after inaugurating a Sub-Divisional Hospital, Mann underscored his administration’s achievements while expressing confidence that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will return to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Invoking the legacy of revolutionary icons, Mann remarked that India’s trajectory could have been significantly different had figures like Bhagat Singh been at the helm post-independence. He questioned why, decades after freedom, systemic challenges persist despite the sacrifices of revolutionaries such as Kartar Singh Sarabha. Referring to Bhagat Singh’s writings and vision, the Chief Minister said the revolutionary had already anticipated concerns about governance after independence, a point he linked to present-day political discourse.
At the same time, Mann projected strong political confidence, stating that it is “evident” the AAP will form the government again in 2027. He attributed this optimism to what he described as the fulfillment of key electoral promises within four years, asserting that the opposition has been left without substantive issues to raise before the public.
The Chief Minister also launched a pointed attack on traditional political parties, including Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing them of misgovernance and exploiting state resources during their respective tenures. He alleged that previous regimes weakened Punjab’s economy and governance structures, while his administration has focused on corrective measures and people-centric policies. Mann further claimed that political rivals, once dismissive of his leadership, are now compelled to respond to his government’s initiatives.
Highlighting governance reforms, Mann said his administration has introduced a “new political culture” by delivering on commitments within a shorter timeframe. He emphasized that the government has taken decisive steps to address legacy issues, including action against individuals allegedly involved in the drug trade. According to him, such measures reflect a shift towards accountability and transparency.
The Chief Minister also referred to the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s now-repealed farm laws, noting that Punjab continues to remember those who lost their lives during the protests. He reiterated his government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of farmers, a key constituency in the state.
On the development front, Mann outlined a wide range of initiatives across sectors. In healthcare, he highlighted the expansion of services under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which offers cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually. He noted that a large network of Aam Aadmi Clinics is already operational, providing accessible primary care to citizens.
In the social sector, the Chief Minister spoke about financial assistance schemes aimed at women, including monthly support for eligible beneficiaries. He said such initiatives are designed to enhance social security and dignity for women across Punjab.
Employment generation also featured prominently in his address. Mann stated that tens of thousands of government jobs have been provided, with a focus on engaging youth constructively and reducing their vulnerability to social challenges. He linked employment opportunities to broader efforts aimed at curbing drug abuse.
Infrastructure and agriculture were highlighted as key pillars of development. Mann noted improvements in irrigation through expanded canal water usage and the restoration of watercourses. He also cited ongoing investments in rural road networks and power sector reforms, including reduced tariffs and enhanced supply to farmers.
In education, the Chief Minister pointed to the establishment of Schools of Eminence, teacher training initiatives, and improved student outcomes in national assessments. He said these measures aim to strengthen public education and expand opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
Concluding his address, Mann reiterated that his government’s primary focus remains the overall development of Punjab and the welfare of its people. As political activity intensifies in the state, his remarks reflect a dual strategy—highlighting governance achievements while actively shaping the narrative ahead of the next electoral cycle.
