Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Highlights Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Unmatched Sacrifice, Announces Long-Term Commemoration Efforts
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday reaffirmed that the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who laid down his life in Delhi to safeguard human rights and religious freedom, remains unparalleled in world history. Describing the Ninth Sikh Guru as a true embodiment of secularism, unity and universal brotherhood, the Chief Minister said that Guru Sahib’s teachings continue to illuminate the path of humanity even today.
Mann revealed that the Punjab government has already been organizing a series of large-scale events to commemorate the 350th martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. These programs, he said, will not only continue in the coming months but will also be held every year to ensure that the Guru’s eternal legacy reaches future generations. The objective, he added, is to preserve and propagate the Guru’s profound message of sacrifice, courage and spiritual resilience.
The Chief Minister also outlined the extensive arrangements made for devotees arriving in Sri Anandpur Sahib to pay homage. He informed that apart from establishing a tent city and massive parking zones, the government has deployed 700 electric rickshaws and 20 mini-buses to provide free transportation to pilgrims. Mann said the state has ensured seamless facilities to guarantee a smooth and hassle-free experience for all visitors to the holy city.
Highlighting recent initiatives, the Chief Minister mentioned that a grand Nagar Kirtan was flagged off from Srinagar, which travelled through Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and other districts before reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib, symbolizing spiritual unity across regions.
In a significant move toward cultural preservation, Mann announced that the state government will introduce curriculum reforms to educate students about Punjab’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The contributions of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and revered martyrs such as Bhai Sati Dass, Bhai Mati Dass, Bhai Dyala Ji, Baba Jiwan Ji (Bhai Jaita Ji) and Bhai Kirpa Singh (Pandit Kirpa Ram) will be incorporated into the syllabus. He emphasized that preserving and passing on this glorious legacy to the youth is the moral obligation of the state government.
The Chief Minister said that by embedding this history into the education system, Punjab aims to instill pride, awareness and inspiration in the minds of the younger generation, ensuring that the sacrifices made for the protection of faith and human dignity are never forgotten.
