Opposition Slams AAP Government Over Punjab Budget 2025-26, Calls It a Failure

The opposition parties, including the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Wednesday over the Punjab Budget for the financial year 2025-26. They accused the state government of failing to address key issues, neglecting crucial sectors, and betraying the people with unfulfilled promises.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring termed the Budget as lacking vision and substance. He alleged that the AAP government was merely repackaging central schemes without introducing any significant initiatives for Punjab’s development. Warring went on to say that this Budget reflected AAP’s acceptance of its impending defeat and seemed like an act of “preemptive revenge” against the people of Punjab by denying them much-needed relief.

Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa targeted the government’s plan for a drug census under the ‘Yudh Nashe De Virudh’ campaign. He suggested that before conducting the survey, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and all 117 MLAs should first undergo drug tests conducted by an independent health agency outside the state government’s purview. Bajwa further criticized the government’s handling of the drug menace, demanding a fair and transparent approach to combat the crisis.

Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu also attacked the AAP government, highlighting its failure to fulfill its promise of providing ₹1,000 per month to women in Punjab. He pointed out that the state’s debt had increased by nearly ₹1 lakh crore under AAP’s rule, almost matching the ₹3 lakh crore debt accumulated over the previous 30 years. He expressed concerns over rising crime and drug trafficking, stating that the Budget lacked concrete measures to address the deteriorating law and order situation.

BJP leaders also echoed similar sentiments, calling the Budget a disappointment. They criticized the AAP government for its alleged mismanagement of state finances and accused it of prioritizing optics over real governance. According to BJP leaders, the Budget fails to offer meaningful solutions to Punjab’s economic and social challenges.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership, calling the 2025-26 Budget a betrayal of Punjab’s people. Badal accused the government of going back on its promises to farmers, women, youth, business owners, government employees, and weaker sections of society. He claimed that AAP had misled voters with grand assurances, only to abandon them once in power.

The opposition leaders jointly condemned the AAP government for what they described as a Budget that lacks depth, vision, and commitment to the welfare of Punjab. They warned that without real reforms and targeted interventions, the state’s financial and social challenges would continue to worsen.
