Opposition Parties Attack Punjab Budget

The Punjab budget triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties, including the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Shiromani Akali Dal. Opposition leaders accused the government of presenting a “misleading” and “directionless” budget that fails to address the real issues faced by the people.
Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa criticized the budget, claiming that it lacked a clear development strategy and was merely a “play of numbers.” He argued that despite large announcements, the government had not provided practical solutions for farmers, youth, traders, and employees.
Similarly, several opposition leaders questioned the financial feasibility of the welfare promises made in the budget, warning that Punjab’s growing public debt could become a serious concern in the coming years. Some critics pointed out that the state’s total debt is already estimated to exceed ₹4 lakh crore, raising doubts about the sustainability of new spending commitments.
