AAP Contests All Punjab Lok Sabha Seats, Kejriwal Takes Dig at Congress
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Saturday announced that the party will contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and one seat in Chandigarh. This is a major blow to the opposition parties’ India Alliance, which was hoping to field a united front against the AAP in the upcoming polls.
The AAP’s decision to go solo in Punjab comes as no surprise, as the party has been steadily gaining ground in the state since its landslide victory in the 2022 assembly elections. The AAP won 92 of the 117 seats in the assembly, decimating the incumbent Congress party and the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Kejriwal, who was speaking at a public event in Punjab on the doorstep delivery of ration, said that the AAP will announce its candidates for all 14 seats in the coming 10-15 days. He urged the people of Punjab to give the AAP the same kind of support that they did in the assembly elections.
The AAP’s decision to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is a bold move, but it is one that the party believes it can pull off. The AAP has a strong base in Punjab, and it is confident that it can capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment against the Congress and the SAD.
The AAP’s entry into the fray is likely to make the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab a three-way contest between the AAP, the Congress, and the SAD. The BJP, which is the junior partner in the SAD-led alliance, is expected to contest the polls on its own.
The AAP’s decision to go solo in Punjab is a major development in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. It remains to be seen whether the AAP will be able to replicate its success in the assembly elections in the Lok Sabha polls as well.
