Allegations of Democratic Breach: BJP Criticizes Expulsion of MLAs from Budget Session

Dharamsala (Arvind Sharma) 29/2/24

Rakesh Sharma, the spokesperson for the State BJP, today expressed strong criticism towards the expulsion of 15 BJP MLAs during the  budget session of the HP Assembly, labeling it as a “murder of democracy.” According to Sharma, this action reflects the authoritarian stance of the Sukhu-led Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, highlighting a significant discord within the state’s ruling party.

In a press release here ,Sharma pointed out the apparent contradictions within the Congress party, where, despite assurances from Congress leaders that the government is functioning smoothly, the State President Pratibha Singh’s recent endorsement of the 6 dissenting MLAs’ perspectives reveals a deep-seated lack of cohesion between the government and its party organization. This, Sharma argues, has laid bare the internal conflicts plaguing the Congress party.

Further criticizing the state’s leadership, Sharma accused the Congress government of failing to fulfill its promises, leading to widespread disillusionment and frustration among the populace. This dissatisfaction, he claims, has even permeated the ranks of the Congress party’s ministers and MLAs, contributing to the internal unrest.

Sharma contends that the expulsion of the BJP MLAs following the party’s success in the Rajya Sabha elections was a desperate move by the Sukhu government to cling to power, suggesting that the government’s stability was at risk. He questioned the capability of a government, which lacks the support of its own members, to meet the expectations of the state’s people, painting a bleak picture of governance under the current Congress administration.
