Aman Arora Sets One-Week Deadline to Clear Service Delivery Backlog, Aims to Retain Punjab’s Top Spot
Chandigarh, October 2:
Punjab Governance Reforms and Public Grievances Minister Aman Arora has given a one-week deadline to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to clear any pending citizen service requests, aiming to keep Punjab at the top spot in the country’s service delivery rankings. Punjab recently achieved the highest position in the national Grievance Redressal Index, an initiative by the Government of India to assess state and UT performance in resolving public grievances.
During a meeting to review the progress of ongoing projects under the Department of Governance Reforms & Public Grievances, held at MGSIPA, Arora highlighted that although service delivery pendency is impressively low at 0.19% across districts, there is still room for improvement. He urged DCs to identify officials responsible for delays and hold them accountable to ensure timely service delivery to the public. At the same time, Arora stressed the importance of recognizing and appreciating top-performing officials for their exceptional work.
In addition to addressing service backlog issues, Arora also focused on further promoting the flagship scheme “Bhagwant Mann Sarkar, Tuhade Dwaar.” The scheme, which enables citizens to access 43 government services by simply dialing the helpline number 1076, is designed to make public services more accessible and convenient. Arora instructed officials to take every possible step to raise awareness about this initiative so that more citizens can benefit from it.
Appreciating the efforts of DCs in maintaining low pendency levels, the minister reiterated the commitment of the Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to ensuring prompt and efficient service delivery for all citizens. The meeting also reviewed the status of complaints received through the Public Grievances Redressal System (PGRS), with a focus on ensuring that issues are resolved in a timely manner.
Principal Secretary Governance Reforms Ajoy Sharma and other senior officials of the department were present at the meeting. They expressed confidence that these measures would further enhance the efficiency and transparency of service delivery in the state, solidifying Punjab’s reputation as a leader in governance reforms.
