Amritsar Police Busts Trans-Border Narco-Smuggling Module, Seizes 5 Kg Heroin
In a significant success against trans-border narcotic smuggling, Amritsar Commissionerate Police (CP) dismantled a drug trafficking module with the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of 5 kilograms of heroin. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the operation on Thursday, emphasizing the state’s intensified war on drugs.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Harpartap Singh alias Happy (29) from Rorewali village, Karandeep Singh (21) from Nagal Sohal village, and Jagpreet Singh (19) from Dharamkot Randhawa village. Along with the narcotics consignment, the police also seized the motorcycle used by the accused.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and buyers.
Amritsar CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar revealed that the police received credible intelligence about a drug consignment delivered in Fatehgarh Churian, with the suspects heading toward Verka bypass on a motorcycle. Acting swiftly, a team led by Inspector Amolakdeep Singh, under the supervision of DCP Investigation Alam Vijay Singh and other senior officers, intercepted and arrested the accused near Escort Hospital in Amritsar.
Efforts are underway to determine the total quantity of narcotics trafficked by the accused to date. The case has been registered as FIR no. 272, dated December 3, 2024, under sections 21-C, 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sadar, Amritsar.
