Anticipation Rises: Congress May Unveil Himachal Pradesh Candidates Today
As anticipation mounts in Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, the Congress party is expected to announce its candidates by this evening. With the elections slated for the final phase on June 1st, the Congress cadre eagerly awaits the unveiling of its contenders for both parliamentary and assembly seats.
However, the political landscape in the state has witnessed significant shifts, posing challenges for the Congress in finalizing its candidates. The defection of six Congress MLAs to the BJP adds a layer of complexity, necessitating careful consideration in selecting candidates who can resonate with the electorate.
The contest between the Congress and the BJP has intensified, marked by serious allegations and counter-allegations exchanged between the two parties. As tensions simmer, the fate of the candidates hangs in the balance, awaiting the verdict of the voters.
Despite the challenges, the Congress has made strides in narrowing down its candidate list. PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh is set to contest from Mandi, while Satpal Raizada, a former Una MLA, emerges as the choice for Hamirpur. These selections, finalized during meetings of the coordination and screening committees in New Delhi, await formal approval from the CEC.
In the fray for the Kangra parliamentary seat is former minister Asha Kumari, although other contenders such as Jagjivan Pal, a prominent OBC leader, vie for the ticket. The contest remains open, reflecting the party’s deliberations in identifying the most viable candidate.
Meanwhile, the Shimla parliamentary constituency poses a challenge for the Congress, with multiple contenders vying for the ticket. Vinod Sultanpuri, Kasauli MLA, emerges as a frontrunner, despite being added to the list of contenders relatively late. Speculation abounds regarding the potential candidacy of Virender Kashyap, a former BJP MP from Shimla, should he defect from the opposition party. Amit Nanda and Dayal Pyari also remain in contention, underscoring the competitive nature of the selection process.
As the clock ticks closer to the announcement deadline, Congress leaders express confidence in finalizing their candidates by tomorrow evening. The party remains focused on fielding candidates who can effectively represent its interests and garner support from the electorate.
