Bhuntar Airport Expansion Gets Green Light: Bigger Planes, More Tourists for Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced today that forest clearance for the expansion of Bhuntar Airport has been granted, paving the way for larger aircrafts to land and a boost in tourism.

The expansion will enable Bhuntar Airport to meet Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations and enhance safety measures. This is expected to significantly increase tourist footfall in the Kullu and Lahaul regions, known for their natural beauty, rich culture, and religious sites.

Direct flights between Amritsar and Kullu are already operational, and the expansion is expected to attract even more domestic and international travelers.

“Tourism is a mainstay of our state’s economy, and we are committed to promoting it widely,” said Chief Minister Sukhu. “This government has allocated ₹3,000 crore to the tourism sector and is making every effort to enhance infrastructure and offer memorable experiences to tourists.”

The state government has set an ambitious target of attracting over five crore tourists annually.
