Boosting Development and Celebrating Culture: Highlights from the State-Level Shivratri Mahotsav in Baijnath, Kangra District

 

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, marked the commencement of the five-day state-level Shivratri Mahotsav at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Baijnath, Kangra district. In his inaugural address, he extended prayers for the welfare of the state’s residents while also kickstarting 10 development projects totaling Rs. 49.22 crore in the Baijnath Assembly constituency.

Chief Minister Sukhu announced the expansion of Kangra Airport, anticipating a significant upsurge in tourism. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to providing a relief package for displaced families, underscoring the need for central assistance, which was delayed, for disaster relief works.Before the Mahotsav inauguration, the Chief Minister partook in rituals at the historic Shiva temple in Baijnath, celebrating the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. He emphasized the cultural significance of such festivals, expressing the responsibility to preserve them.

 

Highlighting the government’s budgetary provisions, Chief Minister Sukhu declared Himachal Pradesh as the pioneer state in setting minimum support prices for wheat, maize, and milk. This initiative is expected to significantly augment farmers’ incomes, contributing to around 90 percent of the state’s population.In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Chief Minister announced the launch of the Indira Gandhi Pyari Brahmin Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana, providing eligible women above 18 years with an honorarium of Rs. 1,500 monthly. This initiative aims to foster financial independence among women and combat corruption.The government unveiled a youth policy aimed at promoting sports and discouraging substance abuse among the youth. Enhancements in the diet allowance for school-level players and the introduction of AC three-tier and air travel facilities for national-level players were announced.

Chief Minister Sukhu inaugurated various developmental projects including drinking water schemes, road upgradations, and educational institutions. Notable projects include the improvement of the Sansal Mandhed drinking water scheme, railway over bridge on Baijnath Chobin Balander Road, and administrative building of Government Industrial Training Institute of Sakri Baijnath.

Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for several projects including the improvement of drinking water distribution systems, irrigation schemes, and flood control works. Future endeavors such as the establishment of a Polytechnic Institute, ITI, and healthcare facilities were also announced.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Kishori Lal, extended gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhu for his dedication to the development of Baijnath Assembly constituency and the state at large. Several dignitaries including Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar Choudhary, AYUSH and Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, and other officials graced the occasion with their presence.
