Breakthrough in Soldier Safety: DRDO Develops India’s Lightest Bulletproof Jacket
Breakthrough in Soldier Safety: DRDO Develops India’s Lightest Bulletproof Jacket
Indian soldiers can now move with unprecedented agility and protection thanks to a revolutionary new bulletproof jacket developed by DRDO’s DMSRDE. This game-changing technology offers the highest level of ballistic defense (Level 6 of BIS 17051) against powerful 7.62 x 54 R API ammunition, typically used in sniper rifles.
Innovation at its Finest
This lightweight marvel is a testament to DRDO’s commitment to cutting-edge defense solutions. The jacket utilizes a novel design approach, incorporating both new materials and processes. The heart of the jacket lies in its ergonomically designed front Hard Armour Panel (HAP). This panel features a monolithic ceramic plate backed by a special polymer, ensuring exceptional ballistic protection while maximizing comfort and wearability during operations.
Unmatched Mobility and Protection
DRDO’s breakthrough design keeps the areal density (weight per unit area) of the HAP incredibly low. The ICW HAP boasts a density of less than 40 kg/m2, while the standalone HAP comes in at under 43 kg/m2. This translates to unprecedented freedom of movement for soldiers on the battlefield, allowing them to perform maneuvers with agility and ease, all while staying shielded from the most potent threats.
Securing Our Heroes
Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO have lauded DMSRDE for this remarkable achievement. This lightweight bulletproof jacket represents a significant leap forward in soldier protection, empowering our armed forces with the confidence and mobility they deserve.
