Chandigarh Launches Community Policing Program ‘Samavesh’
Chandigarh, October 10, 2023: The Honorable Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Sh. Banwari Lal Purohit, launched a Community Policing Programme called ‘SAMAVESH’ today at Tagore Theatre in Sector 18. The event also marked the flag-off of 52 new motorbikes in collaboration with Hero Motor Pvt. Ltd.
Samavesh Kendras are one-stop shops for police services that aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of policing, particularly at the Police Station level. These centers will offer citizens a physical space to access police services and interact with police officers, fostering better police-public relationships.
Some notable features of Samavesh Kendras include easy accessibility, clean and well-maintained facilities, an air-conditioned environment, access to toilets, recreational areas, and well-trained policemen in plain clothes.
The services available at Samavesh Kendras include:
- eFIR registration
- Complaint registration
- Character verification
- Employee verification
- Tenant verification
- Servant verification
- Lost article reports
- Locked house registration
- Passport verification
- Checking the status of complaints/cases
- Applying for horse riding school
- Applying for the shooting range
- Obtaining a police clearance certificate
- Senior citizen stickers
The Honorable Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh encouraged Samavesh Advisory Committee members to collaborate with the police in resolving citizens’ minor issues. He also congratulated the DGP UT for this important initiative.
Samavesh is a welcome step towards improving police-public relations and making policing more efficient and effective in Chandigarh.
