Chief Minister Accuses BJP of Looting Mineral Wealth and Conspiring to Overthrow Congress Government

Bilaspur/Ghumarwin/Jhanduta, May 18, 2024 – Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has accused the previous BJP government of looting the state’s mineral wealth, alleging that large mafias were allowed to operate crushers in Shukr and Pung rivers, siphoning off precious resources. Addressing election rallies in support of Congress candidate Satpal Raizada in Bilaspur, Ghumarwin, and Jhanduta, Sukhu stated that the BJP, led by Jai Ram Thakur, is now conspiring to overthrow the Congress government.

The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for failing to address corruption, stating that his administration has closed corrupt channels and earned an additional Rs 2200 crore in revenue in just one year. He also highlighted that six Congress MLAs and three independents were bought by the BJP to destabilize his government. Sukhu specifically called out former MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal for defecting to the BJP after deceiving the Congress leadership.

Sukhu emphasized his government’s achievements, including introducing old pension schemes, sanctioning a cancer hospital, and providing relief during natural disasters. He condemned the BJP for trying to stop the Rs 1500 monthly pension scheme for women and assured that the Congress would release three months of pensions together after the elections. He also mentioned the legal process to clear stalled recruitments and promised to address the 40,000 vacant government posts.

The Chief Minister accused BJP of trying to mislead the public and divert attention from real issues. He assured that the Congress has full majority and stability in Himachal Pradesh. Sukhu dismissed Jai Ram Thakur’s claim that the BJP would form governments both in Himachal and Delhi, asserting that the Congress would emerge victorious in both places.

Sukhu highlighted the Congress’s commitment to the welfare of the people, such as increasing MGNREGA wages by Rs 60 and pledging to cover educational expenses for children of widowed women until they turn 27. He also criticized the Agniveer scheme and assured that Congress would play a crucial role in scrapping it if they come to power at the center.

He appealed to the public to vote for Congress on June 1, emphasizing that Satpal Raizada, a son of a former soldier, would be dedicated to their welfare, unlike BJP’s celebrity politicians. Sukhu expressed confidence that Congress would win all four Lok Sabha seats and six assembly by-elections with the support of the people.

During the events, prominent leaders like Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, former minister Thakur Ram Lal, Lok Sabha candidate Satpal Raizada, and others were present to rally support for Congress.
