In a significant move aimed at catalyzing agricultural growth and transforming the lives of people in the coastal region of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann unveiled the first agricultural college dedicated to the people, established by Punjab Agriculture University (PAU).

Located in Ballowal Sonkhri, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, the inauguration ceremony witnessed Chief Minister Mann highlighting the pivotal role of the newly inaugurated college in uplifting the agricultural sector in the region. Emphasizing that the establishment of this college outside the university campus is a milestone achievement, Mann reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the agricultural challenges faced by the region.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Mann underscored the twin objectives of the initiative: boosting agricultural productivity and generating employment opportunities for the youth. He disclosed that the college will offer admission to 120 students annually for the B.Sc. degree course in agriculture, thereby empowering the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge for agricultural advancement.

Elaborating on the financial aspects, Mann revealed that the state government has allocated a budget of Rs 50 crore for the college. Out of this, Rs 35 crore will be utilized for constructing campus buildings, while the remaining funds will cover staff salaries for the next five years. This investment reflects the government’s firm resolve to prioritize agricultural development and education in the region.

Expressing regret over the neglect suffered by the region under previous administrations, Chief Minister Mann affirmed the present government’s unwavering commitment to holistic development. He stressed that leveraging the abundant natural resources of the region and fostering economic activities are imperative for ushering in a transformative change in people’s lives.
