On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini paid homage to India’s first Home Minister, known as the “Iron Man of India.” Speaking at the Haryana Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh, he urged civil servants to dedicate themselves to upholding unity and fulfilling the needs of the people of Haryana. The Chief Minister offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel’s portrait and highlighted the significance of Patel’s contribution to the country, recalling his pivotal role in integrating 562 princely states to create a united India.

During the event, the Chief Minister addressed government officers and employees, emphasizing the importance of National Unity Day as a moment to renew their commitment to serve the people of Haryana with integrity and dedication. He urged civil servants to pledge that they would meet the expectations and aspirations of Haryana’s residents and contribute to the state’s development.

Naib Singh Saini praised Sardar Patel as a visionary leader whose life was devoted to the nation’s welfare. Patel’s legacy, he said, is a reminder of the sacrifices made by many to achieve India’s independence and to unify the country. Saini recalled that when India gained independence, it was divided into numerous princely states. Through his wisdom and statesmanship, Sardar Patel managed to integrate these states, establishing a united India.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in honoring Sardar Patel’s legacy. He highlighted Modi’s landmark decision to abolish Article 370 and 35-A, which he described as a “true tribute” to Patel’s dream of a united India. The removal of these articles integrated Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, putting an end to the state’s separate constitution, flag, and leadership. Saini emphasized that this decision symbolized a new era for Jammu and Kashmir, where development and integration would lead to prosperity for the region and the nation as a whole.

He noted that Prime Minister Modi has consistently honored Sardar Patel’s legacy by establishing the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, in Gujarat, which has become a symbol of unity and pride for the nation. Modi’s decision to celebrate Sardar Patel’s birthday as National Unity Day, along with the organization of the “Run for Unity” events across the country, further reflects his commitment to remembering Patel’s contributions and inspiring future generations.

Chief Minister Saini stated that this year, on the initiative of Prime Minister Modi, the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel will be celebrated nationwide, with various programs organized throughout the year to honor his memory. These events aim to raise awareness about the importance of national unity and to connect the younger generation with Patel’s ideology.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister appealed to all civil servants to pledge to serve the people of Haryana sincerely and contribute to the nation’s growth. He expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of the state’s 2.80 crore residents, Haryana will make significant contributions toward India’s development, aiming to become a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by the Prime Minister.

At the end of the ceremony, Chief Minister Saini administered the national unity oath to the officers and employees present. The oath reflected their dedication to maintaining the unity, integrity, and security of the nation, inspired by Sardar Patel’s vision. Chief Secretary Dr. TVSN Prasad, along with other senior officials and employees, attended the program, reinforcing their commitment to national unity and the principles that Patel stood for.
