Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Emphasizes Quality Education and Holistic Student Development in Himachal Pradesh

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu underscored the state’s commitment to nurturing students’ potential and making them responsible citizens. Speaking at Pinegrove School’s annual function in Dharampur, Solan, he highlighted the state’s evolving education system, aiming for comprehensive student development. The state’s education budget has increased by 17% for the 2024-25 financial year, reflecting this commitment.

Chief Minister Sukhu noted that English-medium instruction is now available from the first class in government schools, and Rajiv Gandhi Government Day Boarding Schools are being established in each assembly constituency to support students’ overall development. To foster environmental and water conservation awareness among students, rainwater harvesting systems and grid-connected rooftop plants are being installed in these schools.

The Chief Minister spoke about the Rs. 200-crore Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana, an ambitious loan scheme to support meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds. Students aiming to pursue professional education abroad will also benefit from this program. At the Gram Panchayat level, 493 libraries are being set up in the first phase to offer students quality reading resources. Furthermore, 850 educational institutions are being developed as model institutions of excellence across Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Sukhu also emphasized the importance of equipping youth with modern skills, announcing new courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Drone Training within technical educational institutions. To bridge the gap between education and employment, job fairs and campus recruitment events are now regularly organized.

The state government is equally invested in students’ health, launching the Mukhyamantri Bal Poshan Aahar Yojana to provide nutritious meals to school children, benefiting 15,181 students up to eighth grade. Additionally, under the Chief Minister Sukh Ashray Yojana, the state is covering the education and other expenses for 5,000 orphaned children.

He praised the peaceful environment of Himachal Pradesh as conducive to education and the state’s efforts to establish its educational institutions as centers of excellence. The Chief Minister also appreciated the Pinegrove School management for fostering students’ all-around development.

During his visit, the Chief Minister toured the school’s art, handloom, and photography exhibitions, commending the students’ talents. The event’s highlights included a parade, gymnastics, and a band performance by the students, captivating the attendees.

Local dignitaries warmly welcomed Chief Minister Sukhu to Dharampur. Among those present were Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, Nalagarh MLA Hardeep Bawa, Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Sunil Sharma, former Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Baghat Bank Chairman Arun Sharma, Jogindra Co-operative Bank Chairman Mukesh Sharma, Solan Mayor Usha Sharma, APMC Chairman Roshan Thakur, State Congress General Secretaries Surendra Sethi and Ramesh Thakur, District Congress President Shiv Kumar, Principal Secretary Horticulture and Agriculture C. Paulrasu, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, and School Captain A.J. Singh, along with other distinguished guests, teachers, students, and parents.
