“Chief Secretary Assures Free and Fair Elections in State: Election Security Measures Tightened”
Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena reassured the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, of ensuring peaceful, fair, and transparent elections during an Inter-State border Video Conference Meeting. With elections for six Assembly Constituencies (ACs) and Lok Sabha bye-polls scheduled simultaneously, Saxena emphasized stringent security measures to prevent malpractices like bogus voting, illegal liquor or drug trafficking, and inducement of voters.
In attendance were Chief Secretaries, DGPs, and senior officers from 36 States and Union Territories, underlining a collective commitment to electoral integrity. CEC Rajiv Kumar emphasized a level playing field for all political parties, devoid of inducements or biases.
Saxena outlined comprehensive security protocols, including sealing entry points and monitoring interstate borders to deter illicit activities. Social media surveillance aims to curb misinformation and hate speech, ensuring a conducive electoral environment.
DGP Sanjay Kundu highlighted law enforcement’s preparedness, emphasizing area dominance through patrolling and border checks. Collaboration with neighboring states aims to apprehend criminals and prevent illicit flows.
Awareness campaigns encourage public vigilance against suspicious activities, complemented by extensive coordination meetings. Measures include sealing borders with neighboring election-holding states during initial phases.
Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg affirmed readiness for fair polls, supported by Additional Chief Secretary Home Onkar C. Sharma, Principal Secretary Excise Devesh Kumar, ADGP Abhishek Trivedi, and Commissioner State Taxes and Excise Yunus.
The commitment to conducting transparent elections underscores the government’s dedication to democratic principles, ensuring citizens’ voices are heard without undue influence or malpractice.
