Kangra – Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu launched a vigorous campaign in Kangra district’s Jawali, Indora, and Nurpur constituencies, urging voters to support Congress candidate Anand Sharma for the Kangra Lok Sabha seat. Amidst his passionate speeches, CM Sukhu accused the BJP of deliberately obstructing the implementation of the ₹1500 pension scheme for women.

CM Sukhu criticized the BJP for constantly putting obstacles in the path of the women’s pension scheme. He claimed that BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, have been repeatedly approaching the Election Commission to halt the scheme. He alleged that pressure is being exerted from Delhi to stop this initiative. However, due to Congress’ persistent efforts, the Election Commission eventually allowed women to fill out pension forms. Sukhu asserted that if the BJP withdraws its opposition and the Election Commission grants permission, the ₹1500 pension will be deposited into women’s accounts within 24 hours. Even if permission is delayed, he assured that women would receive ₹3000 in two installments by June. Highlighting Congress’ commitment to women’s empowerment, he mentioned the increase in police reservation for women to 30%.The Chief Minister emphasized that despite the state’s poor financial condition, the Congress government has taken significant steps. The first cabinet meeting restored the old pension scheme for 1.36 lakh government employees, a move BJP leaders tried to sabotage by blocking ₹9000 crore NPS funds in Delhi. Sukhu accused former CM Jairam Thakur of mismanaging state finances and allowing rampant corruption.

Under Congress, the MNREGA daily wage was increased to ₹300, and provisions for free healthcare for citizens above 70 were introduced. The government also promised free education for widows’ children up to the age of 27 and provided financial aid of ₹3 lakh for house construction to poor widows. Additionally, the support price for cow milk was raised to ₹45 and for buffalo milk to ₹55.The Congress government initiated the process to fill 22,000 government positions, compared to the BJP’s 20,000 jobs over five years. They resolved one lakh inheritance and 8,000 partition cases within three months, providing relief to many citizens.CM Sukhu framed the upcoming election as a battle between honesty and corruption. He accused the BJP of attempting to topple a democratically elected government using money power, an effort that failed. Sukhu highlighted the public’s role in preserving democracy and condemned the BJP’s purchase of six Congress MLAs, urging voters to teach the BJP a lesson on June 1 by supporting Congress across all seats.Sukhu endorsed Anand Sharma as a national leader with deep roots in Himachal. He compared Sharma’s candidacy to PM Narendra Modi contesting from Varanasi, emphasizing Sharma’s contributions like opening a passport office in Shimla, developing an industrial area in Kandrodi, establishing NIFT in Kangra, and supporting thousands through MP funds. He assured that Sharma would become a minister in the central government if Congress wins.

The rally saw the participation of several prominent figures, including Congress candidate Anand Sharma, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, State Planning Board Vice Chairman Bhawani Singh Pathania, and MLA Malender Rajan.
