Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, campaigning for Congress candidates Satpal Raizada, Rakesh Kalia, Vivek Sharma, and Subhash Dhatwalia in Gagret, Kutlehar, and Barsar, called out Anurag Thakur for failing to deliver on his promises. Despite being an MP for 20 years, Thakur has not succeeded in extending the rail line from Una to Talwara or to Hamirpur. CM Sukhu accused Thakur of relying on false promises and challenged him to explain why the rail project files remain stalled, despite assurances from Modi and Thakur a decade ago that the rail line would reach Talwara within a year.
Highlighting the importance of democracy and people’s power, Sukhu urged the electorate to respond decisively to BJP’s deception and money power on June 1. He emphasized the historical connection between the Gandhi family and Himachal Pradesh, noting Indira Gandhi’s role in making Himachal a separate state and Sonia Gandhi’s sacrifice for national unity by declining the Prime Minister’s position, a level of integrity rare in today’s politics.
Sukhu also criticized BJP for its perpetual dishonesty, stating that their real intentions and character have been exposed. He pointed out past corruption issues, such as the “Chaitanya tax” on local vendors in Gagret, which discouraged officials from working there due to the pervasive corruption. Sukhu claimed that BJP’s aim was to collect Rs 15 crore annually through corrupt means, which was thwarted by his government’s efforts to close down these avenues of corruption.
The Chief Minister assured that his government would complete its five-year term despite BJP’s efforts and continue to serve the people. He emphasized that BJP cannot revoke the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) or halt the Rs 1,500 pension for women. Sukhu’s government remains committed to eliminating corruption and upholding its promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
By addressing these issues head-on, CM Sukhu seeks to reaffirm the Congress party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, encouraging voters to choose leaders who prioritize genuine development over empty promises and deceit. The upcoming elections are a critical opportunity for the people of Himachal to assert their power and demand honest governance.
