CM Sukhu Inaugurates Manali Winter Carnival, Boosts Mahila Mandals and Tourism
Manali, Himachal Pradesh: The picturesque town of Manali came alive with the vibrant colors and cultural tapestry of the National Level Winter Carnival on January 2nd, 2024. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu formally inaugurated the five-day festivities, marking a joyous start to the new year.
A Celebration of Culture and Women’s Empowerment:
The carnival parade, a dazzling spectacle featuring over 250 Mahila Mandals and cultural troupes, took center stage. Vibrant costumes, traditional dances, and messages promoting social causes painted a captivating picture of Himachal Pradesh’s rich heritage and diversity. The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the tableaux, showcasing the creativity and dedication of local groups.
Empowering Women Through Increased Support:
In a significant move, Sukhu announced an increase in the ‘Protsahan Raashi’ (incentive) for Mahila Mandals, from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000. This financial boost aims to empower these women’s groups and support their initiatives.
Investing in Infrastructure and Tourism:
Recognizing the importance of infrastructure development, the Chief Minister announced a Rs. 10 crore provision for a new bridge near Pandrah Mile in Manali. Additionally, the Rohtang Manalsu, Tourism Hotel at Manali, will be renovated, and parking possibilities on the land of the electricity board will be explored. Ski events are also planned for the future, further enhancing Manali’s appeal as a winter sports destination.
Remembering the Past, Building the Future:
Sukhu acknowledged the devastating impact of the 2023 monsoon disaster on Kullu district and the entire state. He highlighted the swift response of his government, including the Rs. 4,500 crore relief package and increased compensation for affected families. He also expressed his disappointment with the BJP’s lack of support during the crisis.
Looking Ahead with Optimism:
Despite financial challenges, the Chief Minister outlined the government’s commitment to progress. He mentioned the successful implementation of the Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojna and the launch of a new scheme for Divyang children, providing them with holistic education and sports training opportunities. Furthermore, 20,000 recruitments in various departments are planned before March 31st, and the JOA (IT) exam results are expected soon.
A Collaborative Effort for Manali’s Success:
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh praised the Winter Carnival for showcasing Manali’s culture and acknowledging the contributions of women. He commended the Chief Minister’s leadership in disaster management and tourism promotion. MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur echoed these sentiments and lauded Sukhu’s dedication to Manali’s development, citing projects like the Manali Bypass and the ice skating rink.
