CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Awards ₹14.77 Crore to International Medalists in Grand Ceremony
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu distributed cash prizes totaling ₹14.77 crore to 21 international medal winners at a prestigious ceremony. The event celebrated the achievements of athletes who brought glory to India on global platforms.
Highlights of the Ceremony:
- Paralympian Nishad Kumar from Una district received the highest award of ₹7.80 crore for his exceptional achievements, including:
- Silver medal in Tokyo Paralympics 2022
- Silver medal in Paris Paralympics 2024
- Gold medal in Para Asian Games China 2023
- Silver medal in World Games Portugal 2022
- Ajay Kumar from Mandi district was awarded ₹2.50 crore for his silver medal in Para Asian Games China 2023.
- Ritu Negi, a Kabaddi player from Sirmaur district, received ₹33.32 lakh for her role in leading India to victory in the Asian Games China 2023 and for her silver medal in the Asian Games Jakarta 2018.
- Kabaddi players Pushpa, Sushma Sharma, and Nidhi Sharma from Sirmaur were also awarded ₹33.32 lakh each for their contributions to the gold medal-winning Indian Kabaddi team at the Asian Games China 2023.
- Fencing star Jyotika Dutta from Shimla received ₹3 lakh for representing India in the Asian Games China 2023 and Asian Games Jakarta 2018.
- Cricketer Renuka Singh Thakur from Shimla district was awarded ₹13.32 lakh for her silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
- Weightlifter Vikas Thakur from Hamirpur district was honored with ₹2 crore for his silver medal in the same games.
- Boxer Ashish Kumar from Mandi district received ₹5 lakh for representing India at the Commonwealth Games 2022, while Olympian shooter Vijay Kumar from Hamirpur was awarded ₹2 lakh.
Special Recognitions:
Chief Minister Sukhu also honored Padma Shri awardee Ajay Thakur and other eminent sports personalities for their contributions.
CM Sukhu praised the athletes for their dedication and reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting sports and nurturing talent.
