Construction Workers Welfare Board Allocates Rs. 143 Crore for Welfare Schemes: CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu

In a significant development aimed at uplifting the lives of construction workers in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired the 44th meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. During the meeting, CM Sukhu announced that the board is set to allocate a whopping Rs. 143.16 crores towards various welfare schemes in the fiscal year 2024-25.

 

Revenue Projection:The Chief Minister revealed that the Welfare Board anticipates earning revenue amounting to Rs. 191 crores in the upcoming fiscal year. Out of this, a substantial portion of Rs. 143.16 crores will be dedicated to funding welfare initiatives for construction workers across the state.

Mukhya Mantri Vidhwa/Ekal/Besahara/Divyang Mahila Aawas Yojna: Under this scheme, the government aims to provide financial assistance of Rs. 3 lakh to eligible beneficiaries for the construction of houses. This initiative particularly targets individuals with an annual income of less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs, ensuring they can lead a dignified life. Additionally, an extra aid of Rs. 1 lakh will be granted for the construction of kitchens and toilets, enhancing living standards.

Inclusion in Ayushman Bharat Yojana: CM Sukhu reiterated the government’s commitment to extending healthcare benefits to Asha workers, Aanganwadi workers, and helpers registered under the Welfare Board. These individuals will now be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, ensuring access to essential healthcare services.

Digitization Initiative:Embracing technology for enhanced efficiency, the government plans to digitize the entire database of the Welfare Board. This move will streamline processes, facilitate easy access to services for beneficiaries, and improve overall operational effectiveness.

Registration Facilitation:To encourage more workers to avail themselves of welfare benefits, the government will facilitate registration through Lokmitra Kendras. This initiative aims to simplify the registration process and increase participation among eligible workers.

In attendance at the meeting were officials and non-official members of the Workers Welfare Board, including Secretary Abhishek Jain, Secretary (Legal) Sharad Kumar Lagwal, and CEO Rajiv Kumar, highlighting the collective effort towards ensuring the welfare of construction workers in the state.

 

The allocation of Rs. 143 crore towards welfare schemes underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and empowerment of construction workers in Himachal Pradesh. These initiatives not only aim to provide financial assistance but also strive to uplift living standards and promote inclusive growth across the state.
