Delhi Assembly Election 2025: AAP Inches Ahead, BJP Gears Up for a Tough Fight, Congress Struggles to Stay Relevant

The upcoming Delhi Assembly Election, scheduled for February 5, 2025, has set the stage for an intense three-way battle among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. While AAP is vying for a third consecutive term, the BJP is aiming to reclaim power in the national capital after nearly three decades. Meanwhile, Congress is striving to regain its lost foothold in Delhi’s political landscape.

Phalodi Satta Bazar, known for its speculative predictions, has recently revised its estimates, hinting at a potential lead for AAP with projections suggesting a tally between 39 and 41 seats. This upward revision reflects a slight improvement in public sentiment towards the ruling party, despite the challenges it has faced. The BJP, on the other hand, is projected to secure between 29 and 31 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 36 in the 70-member Assembly. Congress, struggling to regain relevance, is unlikely to make a significant impact, with no seats projected for the party, marking a further decline from earlier estimates that suggested the possibility of three seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been a dominant force in Delhi’s politics, winning a historic 67 seats in 2015 and maintaining its stronghold with 62 seats in 2020. However, allegations of corruption and governance challenges have cast a shadow over the party’s performance. Despite this, AAP continues to focus on its welfare-driven agenda, which includes free electricity, water, and education initiatives that resonate with a significant section of Delhi’s electorate. The party’s ability to deliver on these promises will be a critical factor in determining its success in the upcoming elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, buoyed by its recent electoral successes in states like Maharashtra and Haryana, is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to reclaim Delhi. The party has introduced several populist measures and is leveraging the “double-engine government” narrative, emphasizing the benefits of aligning the state government with the BJP-led central administration. However, breaking AAP’s stronghold in the capital remains a formidable challenge. BJP’s strategy will likely focus on constituencies where it has a strong voter base and has shown improvement in past elections.

Congress, once the undisputed leader in Delhi’s politics with a 15-year rule under Sheila Dikshit, finds itself in a precarious position. The party has been unable to recover from its decline since 2013, when AAP emerged as a formidable challenger. Despite being part of the INDIA bloc at the national level, Congress has struggled to present a cohesive strategy or a strong leadership in Delhi. Its failure to make a significant impact in recent elections has further eroded its credibility among voters.

The election outcome is expected to shape Delhi’s political and developmental trajectory in the coming years. For AAP, a third term would reinforce its governance model and provide an opportunity to address its shortcomings. For BJP, a victory would mark a significant political comeback and a chance to implement its vision for the capital. Congress, on the other hand, faces an existential battle to stay relevant in Delhi’s political arena.

As the campaign gains momentum, development, governance, and public sentiment will be the key determinants of the election results. With AAP projected to maintain its lead, the BJP pushing hard to close the gap, and Congress struggling to make its presence felt, the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 promises to be a closely watched and fiercely contested event.
