Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea to Remove Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister Amid Corruption Allegations
“Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea to Remove Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister Amid Corruption Allegations”
In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has once again rejected a plea seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister following his recent arrest on corruption charges. Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, leading the bench, emphasized the importance of upholding democracy, stating, “let democracy take its own course.”
The petition, filed in response to Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to the excise policy, was dismissed by the High Court. The bench reiterated that personal interests must sometimes yield to national interests, but the court’s role is to abide by the law.
Highlighting the court’s stance, the bench remarked, “We are a court of law and have to go by the law. Your remedy does not lie here, it lies elsewhere.” This decision comes in the wake of the court’s recent dismissal of a similar PIL seeking Kejriwal’s removal, indicating a consistent judicial stance on the matter.
Following the court’s refusal to intervene, the petitioner’s lawyer, Vishnu Gupta, expressed intentions to withdraw the plea. Gupta stated that he would approach the Lieutenant Governor with his grievances, signaling a shift in strategy after the court’s ruling.
Ultimately, the High Court disposed of the petition, allowing the petitioner to withdraw the plea. This decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of democratic processes while adhering to legal procedures.
