Chamba Dalhousie (Bobby Singh ) Frustrated by the deplorable condition of a portion of the Karelnu Valley section of the Gandhi Chowk-Kohlader road, villagers in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, took to the streets on Tuesday to express their outrage. The road, riddled with deep potholes and completely devoid of bitumen, has been causing immense inconvenience to commuters for a prolonged period.

Despite repeated pleas to the administration and the Public Works Department (PWD), no action was taken to address the issue. This prompted the villagers to resort to a road blockade, bringing traffic to a standstill. The protest caused significant disruption to commuters, who were forced to wait in long queues of vehicles.

The villagers’ grievances were not limited to the poor state of the road. They also expressed concern about the lack of drainage facilities, which exacerbates the problem during the monsoon season. The protest highlighted the administration’s negligence towards the basic needs of the villagers and their failure to provide essential infrastructure.

In response to the protest, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dalhousie, Tehsildar Ramesh Chauhan, and PWD SDO Ankush Ranothra rushed to the scene along with SHO Jagbir Singh. They attempted to pacify the agitated villagers by assuring them that the potholes would be filled immediately and the remaining road repair work, including drainage and paver block laying, would be completed after the monsoon season.

Convinced by the written assurances, the villagers called off their protest after about one and a half hours. However, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the administration’s apathy towards the plight of the common people. It also underscores the importance of timely and effective infrastructure maintenance to ensure the well-being of citizens.
