In a significant operation by the Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar, led under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, Punjab Police is reinforcing its commitment to make Punjab a safe state. The operation targeted organized crime and resulted in the arrest of Simranjit Singh, also known as Bablu Babbar, a member of Khalsa International, who was implicated in the murder of ex-terrorist Ratandeep Singh. This murder, which took place on April 3, 2024, in SBS Nagar, was executed by two bike-borne assailants. Bablu Babbar, who has a notorious history including the murder of an ASI of Amritsar Police, was arrested by a police team from CI Jalandhar. Following his arrest, Bablu attempted to escape police custody while being taken to the location where he had hidden the murder weapon. This attempt resulted in Bablu sustaining bullet injuries in both legs when the police fired shots to prevent his escape. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Jalandhar city, during an operation led by AIG Counter-Intelligence Navjot Singh Mahal. The police team successfully recovered two modern firearms, including a .32 Webley revolver and a .32 pistol, along with a magazine and 19 live cartridges from Bablu. DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav highlighted that Bablu was operating under the directives of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Rinda and US-based Gopi Nawanshahr. Their motive was to spread terror within society by targeting ex-militants like Ratandeep Singh. Following the murder, one of Bablu’s accomplices, Jaspreet Singh, also known as Jassi Kulam, managed to flee abroad. The case against Bablu includes sections of the Arms Act and Criminal Conspiracy, with further investigations ongoing to unravel deeper connections within this criminal nexus. DGP Yadav emphasized that the Punjab Police is resolute in its efforts to dismantle such organized crime syndicates and ensure the safety and security of the state. The operation’s success is a testament to the Punjab Police’s dedication to law and order, following the strong stance of Chief Minister Maan against crime. This case, registered under FIR no. 39 on 07.07.2024, at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell Amritsar, underscores the efficiency and commitment of Punjab Police in tackling criminal elements head-on.
