Four Arrested for Robbing Businessman of ₹10 Lakh, Spending Stolen Money on Luxury Trip
Four men have been arrested for robbing a businessman of ₹10 lakh in cash and a laptop, and shooting him near a petrol pump in West Delhi’s Nangloi on September 1. The accused used part of the stolen money to fund a luxury trip to Himachal Pradesh, where they stayed in expensive hotels, hosted parties, and indulged in premium alcohol.
The suspects—Kuldeep (27), Aryan Preet (23), Tirath Raj Narayan (21), and Shivam Pandey (18)—are residents of Suleman Nagar in North West Delhi’s Kirari village. According to police, the group spent around ₹4.5 lakh on their lavish getaway, with plans to buy expensive gifts for female friends upon their return.
The incident took place around 1 pm on September 1 when 23-year-old businessman Saurabh Gupta was heading towards his car parked near a petrol pump on Rohtak Road. Two masked men confronted him, attempting to snatch a bag containing ₹10 lakh in cash and a laptop. As Gupta resisted, one of the assailants shot him, causing an injury near his waist, while the other snatched his bag. Two accomplices were stationed nearby, one on a bike and the other watching from a distance. The group fled the scene with the valuables.
Nangloi police were alerted and rushed to the spot, where they found Gupta injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Gupta, a sugar trader with an office in Nangloi’s Janta Market, is recovering from the gunshot wound.
A case was registered under sections 309-6 (robbery) and 311-5 (robbery with intent to cause death) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Police scanned over 1,100 CCTV cameras from the surrounding areas to track down the suspects. The four were arrested on September 5 after returning from their trip, and were apprehended from Karan Vihar and Suleman Nagar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), Jimmy Chiram, said, “We have recovered ₹5.27 lakh of the stolen money, a stolen motorcycle, and the firearm used in the crime.” Two of the accused had also used part of the money to pay off loans amounting to ₹2 lakh to their friends.
