Governor Punjab Commends Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities’ (GRIID) 25 Years of Service

Chandigarh, September 1, 2023

 

The Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID) in Sector 31 C, Chandigarh, successfully concluded its month-long silver jubilee celebrations with a grand function on its premises. Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab, and Administrator UT Chandigarh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Jasbinder Kaur, Director-Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, also the Director of GRIID, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest.

During the event, the Administrator released a special souvenir and a documentary film highlighting GRIID’s significant achievements over the past 25 years. To mark the occasion, the Governor was presented with a painting created by GRIID students.

Sh. Purohit also honored several winners from GRIID’s group performances, which included first-place winners in yoga, Bhavan Vidyalaya for dance, and Post Graduate Govt College sector 11 for inter-college cultural group dance. Additionally, winners of table tennis women’s doubles and badminton boys doubles in the sports competition, vocal group performance winners from GRIID in the music competition, and MCM DAV College Sector 36 for inter-college cultural group music competition were recognized for their achievements.

In his address, Sh. Purohit congratulated GRIID for completing a month-long celebration of its silver jubilee and praised the institute for its outstanding work in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities in the northern region. The Administrator commended the dedication and hard work of GRIID’s staff and acknowledged the institution’s role in fostering inclusivity and dignity for its over 400 students, many of whom have excelled in para Olympics and brought honor to the city and country. He emphasized the importance of treating children with respect and dignity.

Throughout the month-long celebrations, GRIID organized a series of events, including yoga, dance, music, inter-college cultural competitions, assessment camps for individuals with intellectual disabilities, an international conference on accessible and equitable interventions, teacher workshops, and street plays by college students.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Priti Arun, Joint Director of GRIID. Distinguished attendees included Sh. Dharam Pal, Advisor to the Administrator; Sh. Ajay Chagti, Secretary Medical Education and Research; Sh. Praveer Ranjan, DGP; Sh. Jaspal Sharma, Administrative Officer of GRIID; Smt. Vandana Singh, Officiating Principal; Dr. Reena Jain, Clinic Incharge; Dr. Ravi KM, College Course Coordinator, and officials from the Chandigarh Administration and GRIID.

GRIID’s silver jubilee celebrations underscore its unwavering commitment to improving the lives and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a sense of dignity and respect for all.
