Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini Launches Swachhata Maha Abhiyan in Kurukshetra, Emphasizes Cleanliness for a Beautiful Haryana
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini of Haryana, as part of his commitment to make the state cleaner and more beautiful, launched the Swachh Kurukshetra Maha Safai Abhiyan in Thanesar on November 27. In his new role as the Swachhata Ambassador, the Chief Minister personally participated in a cleanliness drive by sweeping the streets, setting a strong example for citizens to follow. His aim was to raise awareness about cleanliness and encourage people to make Haryana the cleanest state in India.
The Swachhata campaign, which aims to turn Kurukshetra into a model of cleanliness and beauty, was marked by various activities throughout the day. The Chief Minister flagged off the “Swachh Rath Geeta Mahotsav,” an initiative to spread the message of cleanliness, and also signed the Swachh Kurukshetra board. Hundreds of citizens participated in the cleanliness drive, offering their time and effort to clean up areas from Sheikh Chilli Tomb to OP Jindal Park, Jyotiba Bhai Phule, and Tau Devi Lal Chowk. The Chief Minister administered an oath to participants, urging every citizen to join the Swachhata Abhiyan.
The initiative coincides with the International Gita Mahotsav, and the Chief Minister stressed that Kurukshetra, being a major pilgrimage site, should be clean and beautiful to create a distinct identity on the global map. The campaign aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a clean India and is part of the broader Swachh Bharat Mission. Under the mission, Haryana has made substantial progress, with over 775,000 individual toilets and more than 6,000 community sanitation complexes built in rural areas.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Haryana’s achievements in the Swachh Survekshan 2023, where the state secured 14th position nationally for states with fewer than 100 urban bodies. He expressed confidence that the state’s efforts, including the development of new sanitation plants in Gurugram and Faridabad, would further improve its cleanliness rankings.
With a focus on planned development, Saini stated that Kurukshetra would receive all necessary resources for its cleanliness, and there would be no compromise in implementing the campaign. The Deputy Commissioner of Kurukshetra will oversee the progress of the initiative to ensure no shortage of resources. Former State Minister Subhash Sudha, along with local officers and representatives, also emphasized the importance of community participation in the drive.
This campaign is not only about physical cleanliness but about fostering a collective responsibility among citizens to maintain and promote the state’s cleanliness for a healthier, more prosperous Haryana.
