Haryana CM Promises Housing for Denotified and Nomadic Castes Under PM Awas Yojana
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh has assured the Banjara community that people belonging to denotified and nomadic castes will be provided housing facilities under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and Rural) schemes. Addressing a delegation of the Banjara community on the occasion of Baba Lakkhishah Banjara Ji’s birth anniversary, the CM emphasized the need for all eligible families to register themselves on the portal to avail these benefits and fulfill their dream of having a roof over their heads.
The Chief Minister announced that Vimukta Diwas (Freedom Day) will be officially celebrated on August 31st, recognizing the struggles and contributions of these marginalized communities. He also assured the formation of a Denotified Tribes Development Corporation to further the welfare and mainstreaming of the denotified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic castes, which include 20 scheduled castes and 13 backward castes.
Responding to the community’s demand for reservation benefits on par with scheduled tribes, the CM assured that a letter will be written to the central government in this regard. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to the welfare of the most backward classes, with various schemes being implemented in the spirit of Antyodaya (reaching the last person).
The Chief Minister emphasized the unprecedented development witnessed in the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, including the inclusion of Haryana’s Nuh district in the list of aspirational districts for targeted development. He assured that no stone will be left unturned in the state’s development efforts, with the aim of ensuring that the backward communities receive their rightful share and join the mainstream.
The CM’s assurances come as a ray of hope for the denotified and nomadic communities, who have long faced social and economic marginalization. The provision of housing, the formation of a dedicated development corporation, and the potential for reservation benefits could significantly improve their living conditions and access to opportunities, ultimately contributing to their empowerment and integration into the broader societal fabric.
